About Word Counter
I created CheckWordCount.com to address inaccuracies I found in existing online word count tools. Many websites fail to correctly process modern text elements—such as emojis (😀️), hyphenated words, and abbreviations with periods (Mr., Mrs.) leading to inaccurate counts.
The goal of this project is simple: to provide the most accurate count possible in a distraction-free interface.
Methodology
- Word Counting: Designed to handle edge cases like trailing whitespace and hyphens that often confuse standard algorithms.
- Sentence Counting: Utilizes advanced Regular Expressions (Regex) to distinguish between sentence-ending punctuation and abbreviations (e.g., "Ph.D." or "U.S."). This balances high accuracy with instant performance, avoiding the latency of AI models.
-
Character Counting: Utilizes the
Intl.SegmenterAPI to correctly count grapheme clusters (like emojis) as single characters.
Privacy Policy
This application follows a strict privacy-first architecture. No text is ever sent to a server. The logic runs entirely on client-side JavaScript within your browser. Whether you are pasting a sensitive legal document or a personal journal entry, your data never leaves your device.
